 Alpine Troubleshooting Guide

CLASSIC SERIES (XL-15C)

IONS: DC & RADIO FREQUENCY (RF) NOT WORKING

One or both of the Ionization systems in this machine are not functioning. The machine needs to come in for repair or replacement.

Turn on the machine. Does the indicator bulb light up? NO

The RF & DC Needlepoint ionization systems are functioning properly if the indicator bulb lights up to ANY degree. Both systems are sharing the same circuitry in the internal electronics package.

A flickering bulb is not a problem or of concern.

IONIZATION SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS

You will need to refer this problem to a dealer or service technician. Please call customer service:1-406-889-5288 for help.

OZONE: LOW PRODUCTION OR NO PRODUCTION

Put the purifier control on high & the fan control on low. You should be able to hear a distinctive sizzling (buzzing) sound coming from the ozone plate. [ Assuming that the Ozone Plate, SS Contacts, standoffs, and RF Antenna (where applicable) are clean. ]

Is the ozone plate installed in the machine?

Is the ozone plate installed properly?

Has the machine been maintained properly?

Check the ozone plate for damage. Put the purifier control on high & the fan control on low. Look at the ozone plate to see if there is any arcing. Was there any arcing inside the machine?

Install the ozone plate into the unit.

The Stainless Steel (SS) contacts must make good contact with the metal mesh area of the ozone plate.

Look at the ozone plate to determine the location of the sparks (arcing).

• If the arcing occurs next to the SS Contacts, pull the ozone plate out and bend the SS contacts inward towards where the ozone plate was sitting.

• If the arcing occurs on the ozone plate itself, replace the ozone plate. The transformer could be malfunctioning. The machine needs to be repaired or replacement. Please call customer service 1-406-889-5288 for assistance.

Y E S

Check the ozone purifier control. Turn the purifier down slowly. The sizzling sound should slowly fade away as you turn the ozone purifier control down slowly. The sizzling sound should not cut-off as soon as the dial is turned down.S

Did the sizzling sound fade away as you decreased the ozone purifier control?

If you hear the sizzling sound and don’t smell the ozone, your sense of smell could be temporarily de-sensitized.

Turn the machine off and any other ozone producing machines off for 2-3 hours and try again. If you still do not detect the smell of ozone:

• The machine needs to be repaired or replacement. Please call customer service 1-406-889-5288 for assistance.

• You can try the following scenario as a way to double-check the functioning of the ozone production.

Put the machine into a small room or inside the box that it came in. Let the machine operate as normal.

After about an hour to 2 hours, open the area where the unit has been placed. Is there a distinct, pungent odor of ozone present? Compare your results with the following possible outcomes.

• If you still do not smell any ozone …

The machine needs to be repaired or replacement. Please call customer service 1-406-889-5288 for assistance.

• If you do smell a pungent odor of ozone … The machine seems to be functioning properly and seems to be electronically sound. Review the above procedures again or call customer service 1-406-889-5288 for assistance.

Please Note: Temperature & Humidity can effect the ozone production levels. The higher the temperature, and/or the higher the humidity, the less effective ozone is, and the more the ozone production is hindered.

The ozone control rheostat could be malfunctioning.

The machine needs to be repaired or replacement. Please call customer service 1-406-889-5288 for assistance.
